Capital One Credit Cards

Capital One credit cards is a is a top ten issuer in the United States with 48.6 million world wide customers serviced by more than 20,000 employees. In 1996 Capital One Credit Cards launched its first overseas operation in the UK where it currently offers Visa and MasterCards to UK customers. They offer great introductory rates including 0.00% interest for purchases fixed for the first 6 months followed by a low long term APR of 11.5% for purchases.

Capital One Credit Cards provide a low balance transfer rate for life when made in the first 6 months of 5.9% APR. Coupled with a limit of up to £25,000 and No Internet Fraud Liability - if your account number is used without your knowledge they offer a highly competetitive package for new applicants.

Their culture encourages innovation and entrepreneurism. One example of this is the introduction in 1992 of the 'balance transfer' concept, allowing cardholders to move their balances to them at more favourable APRs. The strategy revolutionised the U.S card market and brought lower APRs for millions of customers.

Underpinning its dramatic growth is the success of its information-based strategy, which combines advances in information technology and sophisticated analytical techniques to bring the right product at the right price to the right customer at the right time. This has helped them grow from one million customers at the end of 1990 to 48.6 million customers at the end of the second quarter 2002. Now they are bringing their lower standard rates and superior service to UK customers.

In December 1997 they indicated their long term commitment to the UK and European markets by establishing a £30m Operations Centre in Nottingham, East Midlands, creating up to 1200 jobs. The centre is now fully up and running and performs a number of business functions including application processing, customer service, product design and marketing, card issuing, collections, business development and database management.

In June 2000, the company announced the creation of an additional 1,000 jobs in a new facility adjoining its European operations centre, in Nottingham. This has now brought their UK workforce to more than 2,000. They have invested more than £60 million in the project and received a £6.6 million grant from the UK government for the their efforts.
